There are a lot of good things to be said about Nissan Titan. True to its name, the truck is robust, safe, and powerful. The thing we like the most, however, is that sweet tonneau that allows the transport of a massive amount of cargo.
However, much like other vehicles in its class, Nissan Titan has one minor flaw in this regard – the tonneau doesn’t protect the said cargo from debris, bad weather, or other misfortunes we may experience on the road.
No need to worry, though. Here we are going to take a look at five products designed for this specific purpose and try to find the best tonneau cover for Nissan Titan currently sitting on the market.
The 5 Best Tonneau Cover for Nissan Titan in 2022
1. Tyger Auto T3 Soft Tri-Fold Truck Bed Tonneau Cover (2017-2022 Nissan Titan)
Tyger Auto is a name well-known in the circles of experienced car owners. So, you can probably guess how hyped we were when we got the opportunity to test this neat piece of vinyl-clad equipment. And, after a couple of weeks of tireless testing, we are happy to report that the product lived up to the company’s standard.
So, we have already mentioned that the cover is made of vinyl. But, not any vinyl we might add. What you get in here is 24-oz marine-grade dual-coated material with built-in crossbars that offer additional support when the cover is spread.
What do these things translate to in real life when you put this Nissan Titan tonneau cover to use? Well, the cover offers excellent protection, whether we are talking about physical damage or elements. The vinyl is sufficiently sturdy to sustain a couple of direct hits without tearing, but staying flexible enough for a smooth roll-up end set up.
Speaking of, the unit is extremely easy to mount. Sidebars that hold the bar spread with Velcro are attached to the bed of your truck with simple but effective clamps. With no need for drilling, the whole mounting process didn’t take more than 10 minutes the first time.
So overall, this is one very good product. The one thing we didn’t like is the tendency of the material to roll around the edges after continuous use. That means the corners won’t’ always make 100% contact with sidebars. Still, we haven’t noticed significant leakages even after going through an automatic car wash.
- Reliable and affordable
- Easy to mount
- Quality materials
- Rolls up at the corners
Tyger Auto T3 is a sturdy, reliable, and reasonably affordable product that is very easy to mount and offers excellent performance in different weather conditions. If you can live with slight roll-ups at corners after extended use, you have our recommendations.
2. TruXedo TruXport Soft Roll Up Truck Bed Tonneau Cover (2016-2022 Nissan Titan)
If you take a look at Nissan Titan bed covers on this list, you will see that Truxedo TruXport is probably not the best unit out of the five. But, that doesn’t mean we didn’t get a real kick out of it the last couple of weeks we tested it. Still, keep in mind that this novelty comes with a small asterisk.
But first things first – we will start with the positives.
Much like the previous product, this one is yet another Nissan Titan retractable bed cover that is mounted to your vehicle with clamps (no need for drilling) and easily rolls up when you unload the cargo. As for materials, they are simply great – the frame is as heavy-duty as it gets (not too heavy, though), and the cover is made from quality leather-embossed vinyl. You get the idea.
What’s more important is that all these things perform quite well when you finally put them to use. The installation is effortless (once again, under 10 minutes), and the material is flexible enough to be easily rolled out in the case of an emergency.
Another great thing is that the vinyl is pretty durable and doesn’t bend under pressure (e.g., heavy rain), which keeps the bed as tightly protected as it gets.
But, here lies the only major flaw we have experienced with this product. The cover we got was not correctly cut. That faced us with minor but constant leakages.
- Durable vinyl
- Incredibly easy to use
- Solid protection
- Vinyl is not correctly cut out
This could’ve easily been the Nissan Titan hard tonneau cover if not for one small flaw – in the package we got, the vinyl was not properly cut out. That left us with minor but noticeable leakages. Still, it’s worth checking out.
3. BAK BAKFlip MX4 Hard Folding Truck Bed Tonneau Cover (2017-2018 Nissan Titan)
And now we have something completely different. In the world of Nissan Titan accessories, most of the best tonneau covers you can find on the market are made from vinyl. That’s very understandable – the material itself is durable and keeps the price reasonably low.
However, the people from Bak BakFlip decided to take a bolder route and make their product from interconnected aluminum panels.
What this simple change brings to the table?
Well, for a start, durability, and protection of the bed cover have been ramped up to maximum. Putting aside that aluminum is a very tough material that can’t be easily breached by physical damage, the thing that keeps this product 100% breach free are incredibly efficient side and tailgate seals.
Unlike vinyl, aluminum has zero stretch-ability, so you can’t exactly spread the panels out to cover every millimeter of the bed. Perimeter and tailgate seals are solving this problem with ease and grace.
Also, we have to give a special shout-out to the stylish matte finish you can find all around this unit. This design choice does not only make the cover look incredibly mean but also offers excellent protection against UV damage, marks, and scratches.
Now, what are the downsides?
Well, as you can expect, mounting such an elaborate cover is far from a summer breeze. If you want the cover to work correctly, you need to be damn precise. And then there is the issue of the price which is far out of reach of an average customer.
- Excellent protection
- Beautiful matte finish
- Durable aluminum panels
This product has premium written all around its beautiful black matte aluminum body. The manufacturer was also smart enough to counterbalance some of the material’s weaknesses with air-tight seals that keep the cargo 100% dry. But, the quality comes at a price.
4. MaxMate Soft Roll Up Truck Bed Tonneau Cover (2004-2015 Nissan Titan)
This is a product that seems to check all the right boxes. At least the most relevant ones. At first glance, MaxMate Soft Roll Up shares a lot of the same DNA with the first product we have reviewed.
What are we talking about? Well, for a start, the cover is made from military-grade 24-oz vinyl, it features similar horizontal crossbars, and uses similar sidebars as Tyger’s product. And yet, during weeks of testing, we simply felt this package ended up more polished.
For instance, the tension system in this unit works far better and single-handedly eliminates the problem with roll-ups we have experienced with other products. Once you find the appropriate tension, the vinyl will feel smooth, air-tight, and completely wrinkle-free.
The aluminum side-rails are also very durable. The manufacturer states that they were made from the same materials used in the aircraft industry. Nothing we have experienced during testing goes against these bold claims.
When you put these two things together, you get a cover that easily deals with anything the local weather can throw at your favorite trucks. We even put the vehicle through a couple of repeated automatic washer treatments and experienced only minor leakages.
On the other hand, the cover is somewhat tricky to mount, and the instructions you get in the package are not making this story any more pleasant. But that’s something we can live with.
- Great price-value ratio
- Excellent materials
- Wrinkle-free performance
- Somewhat hard to install
MaxMate Soft Roll Up Cover comes as close to Nissan Titan upgrades perfection as vinyl covers can go. The very cover looks beautiful, performance is reliable and wrinkle-free, so the only thing left for complaining is the fact that the whole thing is not that easy to mount. But hey, you won’t be doing that every day.
5. RDJ Trucks Travel-PRO 65-Series Hard Tonneau – Solid Folding Bed Cover (2017-2022 Nissan Titan)
And for the very end, we have another product that tries to sway the Nissan Titan owners with robust aluminum bed panels instead of going down the easier route and covering the bed with a single-piece vinyl cover.
And once again, we had a great time testing the product. It’s hard to put the overall experience in words, but having your cargo protected by durable aluminum slabs makes an entirely different experience than covering the bed with a sheet.
So, the materials are great, the matte surface keeps the UV rays and minor scratches away, and we can say that the very plates work like a charm. But, in order for this type of tonneau covers to work, you need to have excellent sealing (aluminum can’t be stretched and sealed with Velcro).
Unfortunately, this is the area where this product falls slightly short. The so-called Q-seals that protect the cargo by latching the aluminum panels to side rails, front rail, and tailgate cap are far from the best we have seen on the market.
Don’t get us wrong, they do a more than decent job at keeping the water out of the vehicle’s bed, but we would lie if we told you the panels were able to completely keep the water out.
But on the other hand, RDJ’s entry on this list is also a couple of hundreds of dollars cheaper than its direct aluminum-clad competitor, which is something you should definitely keep in mind. If you are not living in a rainy area, this package is a steal.
- Affordable for its class
- High-quality aluminum panels
- Easy to install
- Side seals are not all that great
RDJ Trucks Travel-PRO bed cover is a polished and beautiful product that unfortunately misses one significant mark – the seals are not 100% waterproof. But, if you live in an area that doesn’t see that much rain over the course of a year, you will get high-quality aluminum-based protection at a price that is more than affordable in this class.
And now that we have rounded up these five products competing for the title of the best tonneau cover for Nissan Titan, the question remains – which one of them is the best? Well, that is, for the most part, up to you. People living in different parts of the world will need different levels of protection. Also, your necessities may be dictated by the type of cargo you are going to transport.
Be that as it may, we did our best to objectively present the products with all of their pros and cons. Now, it’s up to you to make a wish-list and pick the right match for your vehicle.
