Extang Solid Fold 2.0 – Features

Regardless of which truck model it fits, each Extang solid fold 2.0 possesses identical features.

Let’s see what you get if you opt for buying an Extang for your beloved four-wheeler.

The Material

Probably one of the strongest points of Extang 2.0 is the material that went into making it.

When you’re buying a tonneau cover, you want one that is both practical and sturdy.

When I first started looking into Extang 2.0, I must say I was pleasantly surprised – kudos to the manufacturers for their choice of materials.

Extang’s exclusive EnduraShield panels have a polypropylene core that provides the ultimate dent resistance. The panels are an inch thick and incredibly lightweight, making them both tough and practical to install and open/close.

What’s more, this material is built to withstand all kinds of atmospheric changes. In the extreme summer heat, it will stay cold to the touch, and the color won’t fade out.

Another great thing about the panels is that they are scratch-resistant. I really appreciated this feature because it means that you can carry whatever you need in your truck bed without worrying about what it’ll do to your expensive tonneau cover.

And I don’t have to tell you that the high level of resistance to scratches especially comes in handy if you live in a place that’s often hit by heavy rain and hail.

When you take all this into account, you get a tonneau cover that will survive whatever comes its way weather-wise.

Plus, such a resilient build consequently provides top-notch protection, but more on that a bit later.

The Design

Essentially, Extang solid fold 2.0 is a tri-fold tonneau cover, and admittedly, these guys don’t always boast a top tier design.

Fortunately, that’s not the case here.

I must say I was thoroughly impressed when I first laid eyes on this bad boy. The first thing I noticed was surely its design, and quite instantly, I could imagine how it would look on my truck.

What made it so compelling is the black, matte finish combined with textured, powder-coated aluminum frames and hinge.

This makes it fit perfectly onto your truck, regardless of its color or shade; black goes with everything.

And the thing is, the matte finish matches the OE bed caps to the level that it looks as if it was designed to be a part of your truck.

Performance

It’s time to talk about the most important thing, probably the main reason you’re here – How does Extang solid fold 2.0 perform in action?

Well, if we consider the rigid construction and the overall robustness of the cover, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the level at which it performs is up to par.

Frankly, it lived up to my expectations.

First things first, I can’t fail to mention the hard polymer rubber corners, hinge caps, and snap-on seals.

These babies help maintain a barrier between your truck bed and outside elements such as harsh weather conditions, providing you with the ultimate weather protection.

The fact that this is a solid fold makes it twice, nay thrice stronger than it’s cousin, the soft fold cover. Hard folds are the way to go if your number one priority is the security of your cargo, and that’s where Extang 2.0 won’t let you down.

The only issue that tri-fold tonneau covers inevitably brings is that you can’t precisely choose how much of your belongings you want to cover/uncover. That’s one of the most significant advantages of soft covers, but it’s a shortcoming when it comes to hard ones.

So, in the end, it all boils down to you – what do you need more? Are you willing to sacrifice the security level with a soft fold cover or the level to which you can open the cover with a hard fold?

Hint: there are no wrong answers!

Installation/Ease Of Use

I get if you don’t want to bother with overly complicated installation processes, they can be a nuisance.

That’s why I’m happy to report that Extang 2.0’s installation is hassle-free.

The whole thing comes assembled, allowing for a quick install – all you need to do is tighten the two clamps to your truck bed, unfold the tonneau cover to the tailgate, and pull down on the patented EZ-lock tailgate clamps to lock it in place.

I have to note a few customer complaints about the cover not arriving fully put together. Still, in all cases, Extang’s customer support reached out to them and apologized for the inconvenience.

These people also say that, even though they had to do a bit more job than intended, it still didn’t require too much of an effort.

As for ease of use, there’s not much to tell. Generally, solid fold covers are not perplexing to use, and neither is this one. It folds in three places, and you can even do it with one hand.

Extang Solid Fold 2.0 – The Bottom Line

So, is this tonneau cover worth the hype? Is it worth the not-so-affordable price point?

In my opinion, it is.

To tell you the truth, I was shocked by the lack of thorough Extang Solid Fold 2.0 reviews. After all, it is one of the best tonneau covers out there.

It certainly deserves to be on the top of the list when it comes to solid, tri-fold covers. What makes it stand out?

I’d say it’s the overall experience. Extang solid fold 2.0 is tough, sturdy, highly resistant to weather, scratches, dents, and UV, which makes it even more durable, and most importantly, it provides the highest level of protection.

What more can you ask for?
